Woo hoo!

I had a job interview today. The first interview, actually, the first call, I've gotten since being laid off about a year and a half ago. That must mean the Economic Crisis™ is over, right? But, seriously, I think the interview went pretty well and I'm pretty certain I would like working there. I hesitate to mention where or what kind of job it would be at this point in time, in case I don't get it. I'll write more about it should the position be offered to me.

When I was younger, I tended to be pretty confident when I interviewed. After all, I was offered a job every time I got an interview. I've even turned down job offers in the past. Things are different now, though. For one thing, the only time I ever lost a job before was when the company I was working for went out of business, and the new owner hired me almost instantly. Aside from that, I had never lost a job for any reason. In addition, a year and a half of no calls when applying for jobs has shattered my confidence. Whereas I used to feel that it would be a mistake on the part of a prospective employer not to hire me, now I find myself wondering why anyone would want to hire me. I'm old, unemployed, no college degree, etc, etc, blah, blah, woof, woof, woof. We'll see what happens. At this point in time, there's nothing I can do but wait. Wish me luck.

I think it's rather cool to have gotten the phone call out of the blue, as it were. I am holding you -- and the job possibility -- in the Light. At least I do not think there will be age discrimination here!

Ed, any employer would be lucky to have you! Were it not for the worst economy since the Depression, you would have had another suitable job (that is, one you would find fulfilling and enjoyable) a LONG time ago.

And, of course, I still maintain you are not really unemployed, but rather, working part-time as a musician.

Keeping my fingers crossed,

Beth

I'm keeping all my fingers and toes crossed for you, sending good vibes and wishing the force be with you!

I'm a bit shattered myself and I do have a college degree (a very old one). Being older can have its advantages but if you can't even get in the door, how can you toot your own horn?

I'm so hoping for you, Ed. Best wishes. Truly.

I'm currently very anxious to hear if I even have an interview for a position that just opened in my district. You'd think I would since I'm already in but the past has proven otherwise with colleagues who have applied for in-house positions and/or transfers and not gotten them. Ugh. The politics in the school system are killing some of us; especially those who don't suck up to the administration.

I feel very much connected to what you are going through. Let us know what happens, okay?

Love,
Gina

I am going to be confident for you! I had some good job finding karma lying around last year. I think I know where it is. I'm going to fetch it and send it your way.

Best of luck, Ed!

Gina, you don't have first right to transfer? That stinks!

Beth is right on all counts.

I have been appalled at the lack of courtesy on the part of so many businesses where you dropped off a resumé in the last year or so. To not even acknowledge the receipt of an application is the height of rudeness. I have no intention of shopping at MacPros, for example, ever again.

I was struck by the same thing when Anna was looking for a job. It's also why I don't feel much loyalty toward Gayfeather, local business or not.

Thanks, everyone! It means a lot to hear from all of you.

Beth, you're right that I've been working as a part-time (or more) musician, but I always feel that most people still see that as being unemployed ;).

Pagan, good luck to you in your own situation. As Suzy said, it's surprising that a school district wouldn't have a policy of first right to transfer.

Lisa, thanks for the job-karma. I hope it works its magic.
